Lena Yu was born

and raised in Los Angeles , California . Her mother worked behind the scenes creating pieces for names that would eventually be across headlines. But her father, a businessman, funded their lifestyle. When she was fourteen, things changed. Her parents got divorced. There wasn't any door slamming or custody battles, just a couch, a paper, and a conversation about how some people outgrow each other. Her father moved back to China, and her mother stayed in California. Lena adjusted as she was taught— quietly and without complaint. The mansion became a penthouse. A little smaller. A lot quieter. Her mother's name started to become more familiar to the streets of California. Soon, Lena was attending more fittings than school days, following behind models that were twice her age, and learning to only speak when spoken to. But, she also learned how to design. And when she announced her plans to her mother to

attend university in South Korea, her mother wasn't happy. She didn't understand. She didn't say no.Korea wasn't easy. The language was unfamilar, the streets were unrecognizable, and she wasn't used to walking around a city of people who didn't know who she was. It was humbling, but it was something she needed. Now, she blogs. Her university dorm isn't as luxurious as her bedroom in California, but it's hers. She models even though she doesn't need to, even though her heart belongs to the studio that carries steam and the scent of fabric.
